Ranku General Store and Licensed Social Club

We'll see you there for a cold one

Image descriptionOkay, this is my website and I'm the one that puts all this stuff together to make it happen so that when you go home you tell everyone "You must go and visit Ranku", so therefore I'm going to plug the store and club.

The store has a motto "A Great Small Store for a Great Small Community" - Like it? I did, that's why I made it the motto because it's true.

We sell everything and anything, er, I forgot to order the sunscreen!! We can get supplies via barge weekly from Nguiu or irregularly 5 kilometers from Ranku when they bring the fuel for the generators.

Large range of Indigenous music cds and dvds now available at the store, including some that are hard to find.

Please contact the store for a catalogue and price list.

"Anyone who has anything to do with Bathurst and Melville Island MUST HAVE a B2M cd in their Christmas stocking!! Christmas special now only AU$17.50 incl GST + P&H to anywhere in the world!!"

B2M'S latest CD "Live at the Monsoons Sessions, Darwin" is a laid back disc of some contemporary styles put together by Jeffrey Thomas, Simon, Fabian Kantilla, Daniel Cunningham, Greg Orsto, and Jimmy Kris.

The six tracks will delight anyone who enjoys contemporary indigenous music.

By the way Nangu Band great realease Cd "Red Sunset" is now back in stock!!

Newspapers, I hear you say - what are they I reply!! However, we have a big cold room and freezer and with the help of internet menus, we can concoct most recipes and you bet we are masters of improvisation!!

Image description Well, back to the store. Fridges, washing machines, guitars and guitar strings, bicycles, ammo, bait & ice, fuel, reading glasses, kero lamp glasses, apples to xylophones!! You may even find a country music CD or one of the latest release indigenous band CDs.

And one other thing, in a small community like this - this is the place for all the goss!! Then we have the licensed Club. The Club license is a bit restricted, like it's pretty hard to get sloshed and we only open for 3 ½ hours for 4 nights a week, so if your partial to a tipple, you better get the right days!!

Oh yeah, we only sell mid-strength beer(3.5%) and no spirits, wine or lardy dardy drinks. Oh yeah, you're only allowed 6 cans per night. But 6 cans should be enough after a hard day of fishing, hunting or fossicking through the rainforest for rare butterflies.

Image descriptionDon't think you're smart and bring a bottle of mum's early start whisky in your bag. NO NO NO, the cops search bags and belongings and they know all the tricks of the trade. You get caught - you're in BIG trouble and don't even think about ganja or other drugs as the police do random body searches and have dogs with pretty clever noses!!

Leave it at home please - believe me, there is enough going on to enjoy it here without getting pissed and stoned every night. If that's your thing, then don't come.

Image descriptionThe store supports the local Aussie Rules football team, the mighty "Ranku Eagles" who take their name and playing colours from the "West Coast Eagles", a major Aussie Rules team in Australia.

The club also tries to sponsor other local sports people. Don't laugh but I reckon a knockout round of Bocce would be interesting!!

By the way, there are no KFC or Mc Donald's for a long cooee but don't worry, wait until you've tried hamburgers or Indonesian style marinated chicken wings!! The hamburgers must be good as the local cops drive up from Nguiu to get them and they pay for them too!!

We also cater for parties and government and NGO meetings! OK, yes we do have a T.V.(with AUSTAR for you sporting buffs) and generally we have the odd DVD movie laying around.
