How To Get Here

It's Actually Quite Easy...

And you'll be glad you came

Image descriptionWell, it doesn't really matter if you are coming from the nearby city of Darwin or New York as this is one easy place to get to, and if you are coming from New York, there ain't no Paparazzi here!(well isn't that how you spell PAPPAWHATSIT)!?!?

Okay, so where's Darwin? I hear you ask. Okay, well you know where Australia is. GREAT. Then Darwin is in the far north of the country in the Northern Territory.

By air, it's only 400 clicks(kms) from Indonesia. In fact, there is even an Indonesian Embassy in Darwin!!!

Darwin has a population of about 110,000 now and is growing fast. Some long term residents of Darwin reckon, too fast. Darwin today is a modern city with all the amenities you could hope for and has easy access to some world famous land marks like Kakadu, Uluru and the under visited Litchfield Park.

Image descriptionOf course being in the tropics, Darwin only has two seasons, the Dry(May to October) and the Wet(October to May). The Wet is pretty hot and humid for some people but it's a great time to visit. This is when everything comes alive with all the rain and famous storms.

Here's something people don't generally know: If the Tiwi Islands(that's where we are) didn't exist, Darwin wouldn't get the storms and lightning it is renowned for! Anyway, that's what I heard.

But seriously, nowadays, anytime is a good time to visit the "Top End" of Australia of which the Tiwi Islands are included.

Image descriptionOnce you're in Darwin, which is accessible via train, coach or plane(Darwin has a modern International/Domestic Airport) there are two main ways of getting to Ranku. Boat(Ferry) or Plane.

Now here's the one drawback, if you're scared of small planes, I'm talking about twin and single engine things that carry a maximum of 12 people, then take the second option!! Otherwise for your information we also take bookings for flights to and from Bathurst Island with Vincent Aviation.

The second option is a bit more restrictive but still, you get to look at the sites on the way. The ferry only operates during March to November and leaves Cullen Bay in Darwin and two hours later arrives at Nguiu, Bathurst Island.

Image descriptionThe beauty of this beast is that it has a licensed Bar!! It normally leaves Darwin on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings and returns the same day in the afternoon.

Now, if you are planning to come to Ranku then we will sort all that out for you and even shuttle you along the 66 kilometer dirt road in our ultra modern 4WD(well, actually it could be an old Toyota ute with no A/C) but don't worry, we'll get you here!!

Seeing as the maximum visitors we intend to have here at any one time is four, the ute is probably not an option as the police in Nguiu are pretty strict about folk riding in the back of utes.

Anyway, let's keep going. If you fly to Nguiu, same story, we arrange to get you here. There are generally three return flights daily from Darwin.

The other option is to charter your aircraft and utilize the airstrip only two kilometers from Ranku. Dead set easy that one, but a bit more expensive. If we can get a back load either way it helps keep the cost down.

Anyway, the choice is yours and we help you with that all the way!!
